The Sindh government has recently introduced a special stipend program to help support schoolgirls throughout the province. This initiative is designed to encourage more girls to attend school regularly and continue their education without financial stress. The Education Department announced that only girls who are enrolled in schools with a valid SEMIS (School Education Management Information System) code will be considered eligible for this financial assistance.
This program is specifically for girls studying in Classes 6, 9, and 10 during the academic year 2024–2025. These grades were chosen because they are crucial stages in a student’s educational journey—especially for girls, who often face pressure to drop out during these years. By offering a stipend, the government hopes to reduce drop-out rates and promote a positive attitude toward education among young girls and their families.
To qualify for the stipend, students must maintain at least 60% attendance during the months of August, September, October, November, and December. This condition is meant to ensure that students are regularly participating in their classes and not just enrolling to receive the funds. Regular attendance also helps improve learning outcomes, as students stay more connected to their studies and perform better in exams.
The main goal of this program is to boost girls’ education in Sindh by making it easier for families to keep their daughters in school. In many areas, families struggle with poverty and are unable to bear the costs of school supplies, uniforms, or transportation. With the help of this stipend, many parents feel more confident about supporting their daughters’ education.
Parents and students across Sindh have praised the decision, saying it is a positive step towards improving access to education for girls. Many believe that this program could bring real change, especially in rural and underdeveloped areas where girls often face more barriers to attending school. Community members and education activists have also supported the initiative, calling it a hopeful move that can shape a better future for thousands of young girls in the province.
By introducing this stipend scheme, the Sindh government is not only investing in girls’ education but also sending a strong message about the importance of equal learning opportunities for all children. If the program is implemented successfully, it could lead to long-term benefits for society, including higher literacy rates, more women in the workforce, and stronger families.
