NADRA Warns Citizens: Don’t Share CNIC Details with Fake Apps or Websites

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has shared an important message with the public. They are asking everyone not to share their personal details—like CNIC numbers or fingerprints—with unofficial websites or mobile apps. This warning comes as part of an effort to help citizens stay safe online and protect their private data from scams.

On Wednesday, NADRA released a security alert, warning about the increasing number of fake websites and apps pretending to be NADRA. These fake platforms are tricking people into giving away personal information, which is then used for illegal activities like identity theft.

According to recent reports, many people have become victims of fraud. Scammers often promise money, gifts, or rewards in return for personal ID information. But once they get that information, they use it for unlawful purposes. This includes stealing someone’s identity, opening fake bank accounts, or even committing crimes in someone else’s name.

NADRA strongly advised that people should treat their data with great care. In today’s digital world, protecting your personal information is more important than ever. It’s not just a good idea—it’s necessary.

The authority also reminded citizens that they should avoid giving out photocopies of their CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) unless it is absolutely necessary. Some people even give photocopies as a form of guarantee, which can be dangerous if it falls into the wrong hands. You should never hand over your ID to anyone you don’t trust completely.

To help keep your data safe, NADRA recommends using only their official app called Pak Identity. This app is made and managed by NADRA itself, and it is the safest place to provide sensitive details like your CNIC number, fingerprints, or other identity information.

The alert also explained that for most government and official tasks, your original documents are enough. There is usually no need to give photocopies, especially to people or platforms you don’t know well.

Recently, a major data breach affected around 2.7 million Pakistanis, which has raised serious concerns. Because of this, NADRA is now putting even more effort into cybersecurity and educating the public about online safety.

The authority is encouraging everyone to only use the official Pak Identity app for any NADRA-related services and to stay away from any platforms or apps that claim to be NADRA but are not official. If you ever come across a suspicious app, website, or person pretending to be from NADRA, do not share any information with them. Instead, report it to the proper authorities right away.

By following the tips and warnings in NADRA’s identity theft alert, every citizen can play a part in protecting their own data. Stay alert, use only trusted sources, and avoid giving out personal information to anyone who seems suspicious. Your identity is valuable—don’t let it fall into the wrong hands.

In other good news, NADRA has recently made it much simpler for families to get Succession Certificates, which are legal documents used to transfer the ownership of property, money, and assets after someone passes away.

In a new notification, NADRA announced that citizens can now apply for Succession Certificates at any of the 186 Succession Facilitation Units (SFUs) across Pakistan. These units are located inside NADRA centers, so people can access them easily.

This step is aimed at saving people from long legal procedures, court visits, and paperwork. Now, legal heirs can get the certificates faster, with fewer complications, and all in one place. It’s a big help for families who are already dealing with the loss of a loved one.

  • Do not share your CNIC, biometrics, or personal details with unknown people or unofficial websites/apps.
  • Always use the official Pak Identity app for NADRA services.
  • Don’t give away CNIC photocopies unless absolutely necessary.
  • If you find a suspicious platform pretending to be NADRA, report it immediately.
  • And if you’re a legal heir, you can now easily get your Succession Certificate from one of the 186 NADRA centers across the country.

By staying informed and careful, you can protect yourself and your identity from online fraud.
