The Family Registration Certificate (FRC) is an official document issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). It provides a verified record of a Pakistani citizen’s family structure, listing details of their immediate family members. This document is important for various legal, immigration, and verification purposes.
To obtain an FRC, an applicant must be registered with NADRA and possess a 13-digit Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) or Child Registration Certificate (CRC). If an individual or their family members are not registered with NADRA, they cannot be included in the FRC.
Categories of Family Registration Certificate (FRC)
NADRA issues the FRC under three different categories, based on the applicant’s family situation:
- By Birth – This type of FRC includes details about a person’s parents and siblings. It is useful for verifying family relationships, especially when applying for passports, visas, or inheritance claims.
- By Marriage – This certificate displays information about a person’s spouse and children. It is commonly required for visa applications, family sponsorships, or legal documentation.
- By Adoption – This FRC lists the details of an adopted child along with the guardian and other family members. It is needed in legal adoption cases or for travel purposes.
How to Apply for an FRC?
Pakistani citizens can apply for an FRC using the following methods:
- NADRA Registration Centers (NRCs) – Applicants can visit their nearest NADRA office to apply for and collect the certificate. They must provide their CNIC and any other required family documents.
- NADRA Mobile App – NADRA offers a digital application service through its mobile app. Applicants can apply for an FRC online and receive a digital copy.
- Pakistani Embassies (for Overseas Pakistanis) – Those living abroad can apply for the FRC at Pakistani embassies or missions in their country of residence.
FRC Fee in March 2025
As of March 2025, the fee for obtaining an FRC remains Rs1,000. There have been no recent changes in the pricing. However, applicants should check with NADRA for any future updates.
Why is an FRC Important?
The Family Registration Certificate is an essential document required for:
- Visa and immigration processes
- University admissions and scholarships
- Legal and property matters
- Family sponsorship for foreign travel
- Inheritance claims
Since it serves as proof of family relationships, an FRC can be a crucial document for both personal and official purposes. Those who need one should ensure that their family details are updated in NADRA’s records to avoid any delays in processing.
