Pakistan is about to welcome another electric vehicle (EV), and this time, it’s the brand-new MG ES5 EV. This modern compact SUV was first shown at the Shanghai Auto Show 2025 and is now expected to be added to MG Pakistan’s electric lineup. The MG ES5 gives buyers a new and stylish option instead of regular fuel-powered SUVs. It is a step forward in making electric vehicles more common in the country.
What is the MG ES5?
The MG ES5 is the next-generation model that will replace the MG ZS EV in many global markets like Europe, the UK, and Australia. It is built on a new platform called the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), which is the same platform used for the popular MG4 hatchback. Because of this, the ES5 offers better space, a more advanced design, and new technology features.

Size and Dimensions
The MG ES5 is larger than the older ZS EV, especially in length and wheelbase, which means more interior space for passengers.
- Length: 4,476 mm (176.2 inches) — 162 mm longer than the ZS EV
- Wheelbase: 2,730 mm (107.5 inches)
- Width: 1,849 mm
- Height: 1,621 mm
- Weight: Between 1,685 and 1,720 kg
Even though the MG ZS 2025 has switched to being a hybrid-only vehicle, the MG ES5 stays fully electric, which is great news for those looking for a zero-emission vehicle.
Stylish and Futuristic Exterior
The MG ES5 has a very modern and clean look. It does not have a traditional front grille. Instead, it has a smooth, aerodynamic front inspired by the MG Cyberster sports car, giving it a sleek appearance. The slim, split LED headlights and sharp bumper intakes add to its sporty design.
At the back, the ES5 features a full-width LED taillight strip, just like the MG4 hatchback. The overall exterior design helps improve performance while giving the SUV a futuristic and eye-catching look.
Interior – Simple, Spacious, and High-Tech
Inside the MG ES5, you’ll find a neat and modern dashboard with the latest technology. The cabin is designed to feel open and comfortable, with plenty of space for passengers. Some important features include:
- A 6-inch floating touchscreen for the infotainment system
- A 25-inch digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel
- A D-shaped steering wheel with gear controls behind it
- A wireless phone charging pad
- Handy cup holders and storage spaces
- A 4 to 6-speaker sound system, depending on the version
The car’s tech-heavy interior is meant to make driving easier and more enjoyable for both the driver and passengers.
Electric Motor, Battery Options, and Driving Range
The MG ES5 runs on a single electric motor mounted at the back of the vehicle. This motor produces:
- 168 horsepower (170 PS)
- 250 Nm of torque
It is powered by an ultra-slim lithium iron phosphate battery, made with help from SAIC-CATL, a well-known battery company. Buyers can choose from three different battery sizes, with the biggest one offering:
- 62.2 kWh capacity
- Up to 525 km driving range (as tested on the CLTC standard)
This long range makes the MG ES5 perfect for daily use and even long road trips. Although it currently comes in rear-wheel drive only, MG may add a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version in the future.
Competing with Other EVs
The MG ES5 will compete with other compact electric SUVs such as:
- Kia EV4
- Peugeot E-2008
With its stylish design, high-tech interior, and long driving range, the ES5 has the potential to become a popular choice in Pakistan’s growing electric vehicle market. If MG Pakistan sets a reasonable price, this SUV could become a top pick for families looking to switch to electric.
