The Education Authority in Lahore has made new rules for the registration of private schools. These new rules are stricter and are made to improve the quality of education, school facilities, and cleanliness in private schools. The goal is to make sure that students learn in a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment.
In a recent meeting led by CEO Education Lahore, Nazir Hussain Chheena, it was decided that all private schools must now provide two important certificates before they can be registered. These are:
- A building fitness certificate to show that the school building is safe and suitable for students.
- A hygiene certificate to prove that the school follows proper cleanliness and health standards.
Old certificates will no longer be accepted. Every school must submit new documents to prove they meet these updated requirements.
The meeting was attended by many well-known school owners and principals. These included Qazi Naeem Anjum from Qazi School and Waqf Awan Taleem. Representatives from other famous schools were also present. Some of them were Beaconhouse, The City School, KIPS, Lahore Grammar School, Unique, The Educators, Allied School, Dar-e-Arqam, Kids Campus, and LAKAS.
During the meeting, Qazi Naeem Anjum expressed his concerns about the new rule that requires schools to provide buses. He said this rule might be hard for small, neighborhood schools to follow. Buying and running school buses can be very expensive and may cause problems for schools with limited budgets. He also asked the education authority to speed up the registration process, especially for schools that have already submitted their applications and are waiting for approval. He explained that once a school is registered, it becomes much easier for it to get affiliated with the education boards.
In response, CEO Nazir Chheena said that from now on, it will be necessary for schools to have their own buses if they want to get registered. He made it clear that this is not optional. He also reminded all school heads that they must follow the Free and Compulsory Education Act 2024, which ensures that all children have access to free education.
The education department is currently working on renewing licenses for schools that are already operating. For new schools, the process will include checking documents carefully and conducting physical inspections to see if the school is ready to provide a safe and proper learning environment.
