Pakistan’s star fast bowler Shaheen Afridi is not only making headlines for his fiery pace in the Asia Cup 2025, but also for his surprising and aggressive batting performances. His powerful hitting has played a vital role in keeping Pakistan alive in tense situations, earning praise even from Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
Shaheen’s Heroics Against India
During the high-voltage clash between Pakistan and India, the Men in Green were in deep trouble at 83 for 7. Just when it seemed like Pakistan would collapse completely, Shaheen Afridi walked in and turned the momentum with the bat. Playing fearlessly, he smashed 33 runs off just 16 balls, including four towering sixes, and remained unbeaten. His cameo not only lifted Pakistan’s total but also boosted the team’s morale at a crucial stage.
Quick Fire Against UAE
Afridi continued his aggressive streak in the following match against the United Arab Emirates. Coming lower down the order, he hammered 29 runs off only 14 deliveries. His innings featured three boundaries and two sixes, once again showing that he is not just a bowler but also a dangerous hitter when the team needs quick runs.
Kuldeep Yadav’s Words of Appreciation
Ahead of India’s final group stage match against Oman at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Kuldeep Yadav was asked during a press conference about reading opposition batters. Instead of sticking strictly to technical talk, the left-arm spinner highlighted Shaheen Afridi’s unexpected batting form.
“When you are bowling, you always try to read the batters. Some of them are playing really well at the moment. Shaheen Afridi, for instance, has been batting brilliantly in the last two matches. He has played some very aggressive shots, and it shows how confident he is right now,” Kuldeep said.
Learning From Greats and From Mistakes
The Indian spinner, who has often credited Pakistan legend Wasim Akram for helping him in his early career, also reflected on the importance of learning in cricket. “You learn from your mistakes as well. Every match gives you an opportunity to improve, and you have to keep evolving,” he added.
Shaheen Afridi – A True All-Round Threat?
Traditionally known for his lethal pace and ability to swing the new ball, Shaheen Afridi is now proving to be a valuable lower-order hitter. His fearless batting under pressure has given Pakistan crucial runs in the Asia Cup 2025, making him a double threat for opponents.
With his contributions in both bowling and batting, Afridi has emerged as one of the standout performers of the tournament so far. Fans and cricket experts are now debating whether Pakistan should start considering him more seriously as a bowling all-rounder.
