The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to start charging money for important documents that people get from the police. Before this, many of these services were free. Now, people will have to pay fees for getting things like character certificates, police clearance, visa-related papers, and tenancy forms.
This new rule has been approved by the provincial cabinet and is now in effect. As per the official announcement, the fee for character certificates, police clearance, and visa documents is now Rs. 3,000. If someone needs a tenancy form, they will have to pay Rs. 2,000. For verifying documents of government employees, the fee is set at Rs. 1,000.
Many people are unhappy with this change. They say that when the tenancy form was free, more people used to register their rental agreements with the police. This helped in keeping records and made it easier for the police to maintain security. But now, with the added cost, people might stop registering their rental agreements, which could lead to safety problems in the future.
On the other side, police officers believe that charging these fees will help make the system better. They say it will improve how things are managed, make the process more open and honest, and also help in moving towards digital systems. Still, the public’s reaction shows that this new policy might need to be looked at again and possibly changed.
