The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has officially announced summer holidays for all public and private colleges, universities, and higher education institutions across the province.
In a notification released on Friday, the Higher Education, Archives and Libraries Department stated that educational institutions located in hot areas will stay closed for a longer period—from June 1 to August 15. On the other hand, schools and colleges in colder or “winter zones” will have a shorter summer break, lasting only from July 1 to July 31. This decision takes into account the difference in weather conditions in various parts of the province.
This summer vacation schedule applies to all public and private colleges and universities across KP. The notification clearly explains that it includes higher education institutions in every district.
However, not all academic activities will stop during this period. The notification made it clear that classes and exams for BS (4-year) programs and associate degree programs will continue as planned. These programs will follow their approved academic calendars, and students enrolled in these degrees should prepare to attend their classes and take exams during the summer break.
To make sure everyone is informed, the KP government has sent this notification to all important offices. These include the Governor, the Chief Minister, administrative secretaries, vice-chancellors of universities, the Higher Education Regulatory Authority, and other concerned departments and officials.
This decision comes at a time when temperatures are rising quickly in many areas of the province. The summer break is being introduced mainly to protect students, teachers, and other staff from extreme heat and to ensure their health and safety during the hot weather.
