IPL Brings in Billions: How Rich Is the Indian Cricket Board? Full Details Revealed

Indian media has revealed detailed information about the massive wealth of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The financial figures show just how rich and powerful the Indian cricket board has become—mainly because of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

According to Indian media reports, the IPL has become a major money-making machine for the BCCI. It alone contributed more than 59% of the board’s total earnings during the financial year 2023–24. During this period, the BCCI earned over ₹9,741 crore (approximately USD 1.17 billion). Out of this, the IPL alone brought in ₹5,761 crore (around USD 694 million).

IPL: The Golden Goose of Indian Cricket

The IPL, which began in 2008, has now turned into one of the world’s richest cricket leagues. It attracts millions of viewers from across the globe and has become a favorite platform for advertisers, sponsors, and broadcasters. This popularity has resulted in massive profits for the BCCI year after year.

But the IPL isn’t the only source of income for the Indian board. Reports say that other revenue streams such as the Women’s Premier League (WPL), sponsorship deals, and media rights have also added to the BCCI’s growing income.

BCCI’s Enormous Financial Reserves

Indian media has also claimed that the BCCI currently holds close to ₹30,000 crore (approximately USD 3.6 billion) in its reserve accounts. These are funds that the board has saved and invested over the years. The sheer size of this reserve shows how strong the board’s financial position is.

In addition to this, the BCCI earns around ₹1,000 crore (about USD 120 million) annually just from interest on its investments. This means the board is making a huge profit even without doing anything actively—it earns just by having money in the bank.

Big Earnings from ICC Too

The BCCI is also one of the biggest stakeholders in the International Cricket Council (ICC). Because of its dominance in world cricket, the Indian board receives a large share of revenue from ICC events as well. This includes money from tournaments like the Cricket World Cup, Champions Trophy, and T20 World Cup.

These figures clearly show how powerful and rich the BCCI has become. With massive earnings from the IPL, sponsorships, TV rights, and global cricket events, the Indian board is now the wealthiest cricket board in the world.

The future looks even brighter for the BCCI, as the IPL and WPL continue to grow every year. With billions already in its reserves and more coming in every season, the BCCI has set a gold standard in cricket administration—one that other boards can only dream of reaching.
