KARACHI – The intermediate exams date for Karachi has finally been confirmed after earlier delays. The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) announced that the exams will now start on May 5, 2025. The exams were previously scheduled to begin on April 28, but were postponed due to administrative reasons.
Chairman of the Inter Board, Ghulam Hussain, shared that around 126,000 students are expected to take part in the upcoming intermediate examinations. With such a large number of candidates, the board is making serious efforts to ensure that everything runs smoothly and fairly.
To fight exam cheating, the board is taking tough steps. Chairman Ghulam Hussain said that action will be taken against people involved in cheating during the intermediate exams. He shared that a letter has been sent to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), asking them to crack down on WhatsApp groups that help students cheat. Both group admins and members involved in such illegal activities will be held responsible and punished accordingly.
The final intermediate exams date in Karachi is now May 5, 2025. With over 126,000 students preparing to take the exams, the board is focusing on fair and secure testing. Strict measures are being taken to stop cheating, and students will also benefit from grace marks in some cases. The delay in exams was necessary to solve ongoing issues and ensure everything is ready for the big day.

36 Centers Declared Highly Sensitive
The board has marked 36 examination centers in Karachi as highly sensitive. These centers are at high risk of cheating or other problems during the exams. Letters have already been sent to concerned authorities to make sure strict security measures are in place at these centers on the intermediate exams date.
Reasons Behind the Delay in Intermediate Exams Date
The announcement of the new intermediate exams date came after BIEK had earlier postponed the exams. There were two main reasons behind this delay:
- Grace Marks Process: The board is still in the process of giving grace marks to first-year students who appeared in the 2024 intermediate exams. This process needs more time to complete.
- Matric Exams in Progress: Several exam centers in Karachi are still being used for matriculation exams, which started on April 8 and will continue until May 8, 2025. The board wanted to avoid overlapping of exam schedules and ensure proper availability of centers for the intermediate exams.
Officials said that the new exam schedule has been carefully prepared to make sure that students face no problems and that exam centers are fully available and ready.
This decision also came after a report by a fact-finding committee led by Dr. Sarosh Lodi. The report pointed out several problems with how the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) is being managed. The Sindh Assembly’s parliamentary committee also held a special meeting to look into these issues.
Following the committee’s report, Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah announced that students who failed their exams will receive grace marks. The goal is to support students who may have been affected by mistakes in the board’s procedures or marking system.
