Pakistan’s hard-hitting opener Fakhar Zaman has started his rehabilitation program at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore after picking up an injury during the recent series against the West Indies. The left-handed batter is working closely with the medical and fitness staff to ensure he recovers in time for the Asia Cup 2025, which will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this September. His return is expected to be a major boost for Pakistan’s batting lineup ahead of a busy and competitive month in international cricket.
The injury happened during the second T20 International in Lauderhill, Florida, where Fakhar suffered a hamstring strain while fielding in the later stages of the match. He immediately showed discomfort and had to leave the field, which ruled him out of the third T20I and the entire One Day International (ODI) series that followed.
Instead of rushing him back, Pakistan’s team management chose a cautious approach, allowing him enough time to heal properly. According to sources, the injury is minor and is expected to heal within 10 to 15 days, provided the rehab process goes smoothly. Fakhar returned home from the United States soon after the incident and has been under the supervision of experienced trainers and physiotherapists at the NCA.
With the Asia Cup 2025 fast approaching, the Pakistan cricket camp is optimistic about his availability. The tournament, scheduled to begin in early September in the UAE, will feature high-pressure matches, and having Fakhar fit could make a big difference for Pakistan. His aggressive style at the top of the order allows the team to dominate the Powerplay overs, especially against spinners, and his ability to handle pace in the middle overs gives the side an extra edge. On UAE pitches, which often assist spin, Fakhar’s fearless batting can put the opposition under early pressure.
This is not the first time Fakhar has faced a fitness issue in recent months. Earlier this year, he was ruled out of Pakistan’s big Champions Trophy match against India due to an oblique muscle tear he picked up in the very first over against New Zealand. That absence forced Pakistan to reshuffle their batting lineup, and while they managed to adjust, the balance of the side is clearly better when Fakhar is present. His ability to hit boundaries early in the innings helps reduce the scoreboard pressure on the middle order, allowing them to play more freely.
If his rehabilitation stays on track, Pakistan could have a fully fit and confident Fakhar Zaman back in the squad right before the Asia Cup kicks off. His return will not only boost the team’s morale but also strengthen their chances of starting the tournament with momentum. For fans, the hope is simple — to see Fakhar back in action, delivering explosive starts, and giving Pakistan the edge against their toughest rivals.
