India T20 Captain Suryakumar Yadav Has Successful Surgery in Germany

India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, recently went through successful surgery for a sports hernia in Munich, Germany. The operation was performed to treat pain in the lower right side of his abdomen — a condition that had been troubling him for some time. Thankfully, the surgery went smoothly, and his recovery process has already started.

Suryakumar shared the news with his fans through a heartfelt post on social media. He wrote, “Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I was already on the road to recovery. Can’t wait to be back.” His message was full of positivity, and fans across the world wished him a quick return to cricket.

The 34-year-old last represented Team India in a T20 International series against England earlier this year. After that, he returned to domestic action with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. His performance was nothing short of brilliant. He scored an impressive 717 runs in just 16 innings — the most runs ever scored by a non-opening batter in a single IPL season. It was also a new record for the Mumbai Indians franchise.

In addition to his run tally, Suryakumar also achieved a unique world record during the tournament by scoring 25 or more runs in 16 consecutive T20 innings. This consistent form made him one of the most dependable players in the format and highlighted his ability to perform under pressure.

Considering India’s busy cricket calendar, Suryakumar wisely chose to have his surgery during a break in national duties. He wasn’t part of the current ICC World Test Championship series against England and hasn’t played any One Day Internationals (ODIs) since India’s heartbreaking loss in the final of the 2023 World Cup. This window gave him the perfect opportunity to focus on his health and begin rehabilitation without missing major games.

India’s next major assignment is a white-ball tour of Bangladesh, which includes three ODIs and three T20Is starting from August 26. This timing worked well for Suryakumar, allowing him time to rest, heal, and get back in shape before returning to lead the team again.

After India’s triumphant T20 World Cup win in June 2024, Suryakumar took over the captaincy of the T20 side. His leadership began a new chapter for Indian cricket as senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja retired from the shortest format. With their exit, a new generation of cricketers has emerged, and Suryakumar is now guiding this fresh squad into the future.

As his recovery continues to progress well, fans and team management are hopeful that Suryakumar Yadav will return to action later in August. He is expected to resume his role as captain during the Bangladesh tour, bringing his energy, experience, and explosive batting back to the Indian T20 team.
