Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has officially joined the Pakistan Champions team for the upcoming World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025. The exciting tournament will take place in England from July 18 to August 2, 2025. Imad’s inclusion was announced through the team’s official social media channels, sparking enthusiasm among fans.
“A power-packed addition to the squad. We proudly welcome Imad Wasim to Pakistan Champions, an all-rounder with grit, game, and presence,” the franchise shared in a welcoming post online.
Imad Wasim, who retired from international cricket in 2024, continues to play franchise T20 cricket around the world. Known for his calm attitude and all-round skills, the left-handed batter and spinner has a strong fan following. Over his career, Imad has featured in 394 T20 matches, including 75 T20 Internationals for Pakistan.
At the moment, he is playing for Somerset in the T20 Blast 2025 in England. However, the league will pause its schedule starting July 18, allowing him to fully participate in the WCL 2025 tournament.
The Pakistan Champions squad will also feature Sarfaraz Ahmed, the experienced wicketkeeper-batsman who famously led Pakistan to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. With names like Imad Wasim and Sarfaraz on board, the team looks strong and balanced for the highly anticipated tournament.
The World Championship of Legends (WCL) is a special cricket tournament featuring retired cricket legends from six top cricketing nations — India, Pakistan, Australia, England, South Africa, and the West Indies. The tournament follows a round-robin format, where each team plays against all the others. The top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals.
This year, matches will be hosted across four major stadiums in England:
- Edgbaston (Birmingham)
- County Ground (Northampton)
- Grace Road (Leicester)
- Headingley (Leeds)
The WCL 2025 is the second edition of the tournament. The first season was held in 2024, and it was a big success among fans of the sport. In that season, the Indian team led by Yuvraj Singh lifted the trophy after an impressive run.
In the 2024 season, Pakistan was led by Younis Khan and delivered several standout performances. The team started the tournament with a solid win against Australia and followed it with a big victory over the West Indies.
One of the most memorable moments came during their high-voltage match against India, where Pakistan scored a massive 243/4 and then restricted India to just 175/9, earning a historic win.
Their only defeat in the group stage came against South Africa, but they bounced back quickly and reached the semi-finals, defeating the West Indies by 20 runs.
Pakistan made it to the final of the 2024 edition, facing their arch-rivals India once again. They posted a total of 157 runs, but unfortunately, India chased down the target with five wickets and five balls remaining, securing the championship title.
Despite the loss, Pakistan’s performance was highly praised, and fans are hopeful that the team will go one step further in WCL 2025.
