The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new version of Pakistan’s national identity card. This updated card comes with smart features, but without the electronic chip. By removing the chip, NADRA aims to make the ID card more affordable for the public.
One of the major improvements in the new ID card is that all the personal information is now printed in both English and Urdu. This bilingual format helps keep all government records consistent and also matches the information on important documents like passports. It will make it easier for citizens to use their ID card for both local and international purposes.
QR Code for Easy Digital Verification
A key feature added to the new ID card is a QR code. This code allows users to confirm their identity easily by using the Pak ID mobile app. Whether you’re opening a bank account or verifying your identity online, the QR code helps speed up the process. It’s a simple way to connect your physical card with digital services, making daily tasks more convenient.
NADRA is also giving special attention to certain groups of people. For example, anyone who has registered as an organ donor will have a unique symbol on their ID card. This will help in emergencies and medical situations. Also, these donor cards will never expire—they are valid for life.
Likewise, people with disabilities will receive ID cards that show a special marker to indicate their condition. These cards will also have lifetime validity, so they won’t need to be renewed again and again.
Affordable Option for Citizens
People who want to renew their old ID cards, change their information, or replace a lost card can now choose this new, non-chip version. It’s a cheaper option but still includes all the important security features. This gives people more flexibility based on their needs and budget.
New Fee Structure and Delivery Times
NADRA has also announced new fees for this non-chip ID card. There are three processing options:
- Normal: Costs PKR 400 and the card will be delivered in 31 days.
- Urgent: Costs PKR 1,150 with delivery in 15 days.
- Executive: Costs PKR 2,150 with a 9-day delivery time.
This allows people to choose how quickly they want to receive their card, depending on how much they are willing to pay.
Free Card for First-Time Applicants Turning 18
Another great initiative is that people who are applying for their ID card for the very first time—especially those who just turned 18—can get the card for free under the normal delivery option. This encourages young citizens to register and get their official identity document without worrying about the cost.
