HEC Postpones All Major Exams Nationwide Amid Security Concerns

The Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) Education Testing Council (ETC) has officially announced the postponement of several important written examinations that were scheduled for October 11 and 12. This includes the Undergraduate Studies Admission Test (USAT), the Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT), and the Recruitment Test for AML-CFT positions.

In a statement released on Friday, the HEC explained that this decision was made due to the current law and order situation in different parts of the country. The commission emphasized that the safety of students and examination staff remains its top priority.

HEC further assured candidates that a revised schedule for all postponed tests will be shared soon. Registered applicants will be notified of the new dates and any other updates through official channels, including the HEC website and SMS alerts. Students are advised to regularly check the HEC portal for further announcements.

Meanwhile, residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi experienced major disruptions in their daily routines on Friday, as authorities imposed strict security measures ahead of a political party’s planned protest in the capital. The situation led to heavy traffic jams and limited mobility across both cities.

Several major roads and entry points were sealed with containers, effectively putting the twin cities under partial lockdown. The suspension of mobile data services added to public inconvenience, making it difficult for people to communicate or access essential online services. Students heading to examination centers, lawyers traveling to courts, and office workers faced significant delays, with many unable to reach their destinations.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, mobile internet services (3G/4G) in Islamabad and Rawalpindi were suspended until further notice. The ministry instructed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to coordinate closely with city commissioners and police officials to ensure public safety during the ongoing situation.

Public transport was also heavily affected. The Metro Bus service, a major mode of transport between Islamabad and Rawalpindi, was temporarily halted. Additionally, businesses, restaurants, and hotels located along Murree Road were directed to close for security reasons. The measures, while aimed at maintaining peace and order, caused widespread difficulties for commuters and local residents who rely on these services daily.

Authorities have assured the public that normal operations, including internet and transportation services, will be restored as soon as the situation stabilizes. However, for now, citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated through official news channels.
