The Punjab government has officially clarified that the Health Card facility is still active in the province and has not been discontinued. This card allows people to receive free medical treatment at both public and private hospitals that are part of the program.
Recently, rumors had been circulating that the scheme was no longer available, but the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company (PHIMC) addressed the issue on social media. In its announcement, the organization told citizens: “Don’t believe in rumors. The health card services are running smoothly across Punjab.”
Health Card Services Available Across Punjab
According to PHIMC, the health card can be used without any interruption. Patients can visit any of the approved private or government hospitals and get treatment without worrying about medical expenses. These hospitals cover a wide range of treatments, from routine checkups to major surgeries, under the scheme.
CNIC is Now the Health Card
The government has also simplified the process for citizens. Now, the Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) itself works as the health card. This means there is no need to carry a separate card anymore.
However, officials have requested citizens to make sure that their family details are correctly registered with NADRA. Only the individuals listed in NADRA’s database as part of the family will be able to use the health card services.
Easy Way to Check Eligibility
Every citizen of Punjab can check whether they are eligible for the health card through a very simple method. They just have to send their CNIC number via SMS to 8500. Within a few seconds, they will receive a reply confirming whether they can use the health card facility or not.
To make the system more accessible, the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company has also launched a dedicated helpline. This helpline operates daily from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm. People can call and get guidance if they face any problem at a hospital regarding their treatment under the health card scheme.
Additional Health Programs in Punjab
In addition to the health card, the Punjab government has recently started special free programs for serious patients. These include:
- Free Dialysis services for kidney patients at selected hospitals.
- Free child heart surgeries to help families who cannot afford expensive treatments.
These initiatives show that the government is trying to improve healthcare facilities for everyone, especially for those who cannot afford costly medical procedures.
