Germany Suspends Visa Services for Non-EU Citizens at Karachi Consulate

The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Karachi has officially announced an indefinite suspension of all visa services for non-EU citizens. This decision was made public on Monday through an official statement released by the Consulate.

According to the statement, the Consulate will remain closed for all non-EU citizen services until further notice. This means that anyone who had a visa appointment scheduled with the Consulate in Karachi will not be able to attend it. The Consulate has also confirmed that all existing and confirmed visa appointments for non-EU nationals have been cancelled and there are no plans to reschedule them at the moment.

The Consulate advised applicants that they will need to register again through the official appointment system once the visa services are back in operation.

“We appreciate your understanding in this matter and will keep you updated on any changes,” the statement said.

While the Karachi Consulate has suspended services, there is a new development from the German Embassy in Islamabad. The Embassy has introduced a new Consular Services Portal to make the work visa application process faster and easier for Pakistani citizens.

The new online platform is available at digital.diplo.de/visa and aims to process more visas in less time. According to the embassy, this system eliminates the need for long waiting lists and provides a smoother application experience.

Through this portal, applicants are required to fill out a questionnaire and upload the necessary documents. These details are then reviewed by the embassy in advance, helping them make sure everything is in order before inviting the applicant for an in-person appointment.

“This ensures applications are complete and well-prepared before the face-to-face meeting, which saves time and speeds up the overall process,” the embassy shared in a Facebook post.

Even with the new portal, applicants will still need to visit the embassy in person to confirm their identity, submit biometric data, and pay the visa fee.

This updated system is available for several types of employment visas, including:

  • Skilled Employment Visas
  • EU Blue Card
  • Opportunity Card
  • Self-Employment Visas
  • Recognition of Foreign Degrees (for Pakistani qualifications)

This move is expected to benefit a large number of skilled Pakistani workers and professionals looking to build a career in Germany.
