The German Consulate in Karachi has announced a revision to its operational hours for passport collection during the holy month of Ramadan. This adjustment aims to accommodate applicants who are observing fasting throughout the month, ensuring a more convenient process for them.
New Passport Collection Hours
According to an official statement, the consulate’s new passport collection hours will be from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, for the entire duration of Ramadan. These temporary hours will remain in effect until the conclusion of the holy month, which is expected to end by March 31, based on lunar calendar estimations. Following Eid-ul-Fitr, the consulate will revert to its standard operating schedule.

- Throughout Ramadan (expected to end by March 31, 2025)
These temporary changes will remain in effect until the conclusion of Ramadan. Once Eid-ul-Fitr is observed, the consulate will revert to its regular operational schedule.
Why the Change?
Ramadan is a sacred month for Muslims worldwide, during which individuals fast from dawn to sunset. Recognizing the importance of this period, many government offices, private organizations, and diplomatic missions adjust their working hours to support those who are fasting. The German Consulate’s decision is in line with similar adjustments made by various public and private sector institutions in Pakistan to provide convenience to citizens.
Several other embassies and consulates in Pakistan have also revised their schedules during Ramadan, ensuring that applicants can complete necessary procedures without disrupting their religious observances.
This change aligns with a broader trend observed across public and private institutions in Pakistan, where working hours are often modified during Ramadan to ease the burden on those fasting. Many government offices, banks, and businesses reduce or alter their hours to accommodate the religious and cultural practices of the population.
Meanwhile, the United States Embassy has also announced modifications to its online visa appointment system. Under the new system, applicants will be required to create a profile before being allowed to schedule a visa appointment. This procedural update is intended to streamline the application process and improve security measures.
In a related development, reports suggest that the Trump administration is considering new travel restrictions on multiple countries, including Pakistan. While an official announcement is yet to be made, sources indicate that the White House is exploring stricter entry requirements for Pakistani nationals applying for US visas. Experts believe that these potential measures could impact both new applicants and those seeking visa renewals. A formal statement is expected in the coming week, which may shed more light on the nature and scope of these restrictions.
These updates highlight the evolving landscape of international travel regulations and visa policies, emphasizing the importance of staying informed about changes that could affect travelers and expatriates alike.
