Free Wi-Fi for University Students in Pakistan

Federal Minister for InformatiFree Wi-Fi for University Students in Pakistanon Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has announced several new steps to increase digital access across Pakistan. This announcement comes as the number of telecom users in the country has crossed 200 million—a major milestone for the nation’s digital growth.

Speaking at a special event held to celebrate this achievement, the minister shared the government’s vision for a more connected Pakistan. She said that mobile broadband coverage and internet services will soon be expanded to even more parts of the country, especially in areas that currently lack access.

She also revealed that the government is preparing for an early auction of new mobile broadband spectrum, which will allow telecom companies to offer faster and better services. This step, along with the National Fibration Policy, will help build a stronger digital infrastructure throughout Pakistan.

Smartphones on Easy Installments for All

To make smartphones affordable for everyone, especially low-income groups, a new policy is being created. Under this plan, citizens will be able to buy smartphones on easy monthly installments, making it possible for more people to use the internet and access online services.

“Mobile phones and the internet are not luxuries anymore,” Shaza Fatima said. “They are now basic needs for education, healthcare, jobs, and business.” She stressed the importance of making these tools available to every citizen so that they are not left behind in the digital world.

Special Benefits for Women Telecom Users

Shaza Fatima also talked about how women in Pakistan are gaining more access to mobile phones and the internet. To support this progress, the government will be giving out 200 smartphones to female SIM card holders. Along with this, telecom users will receive 2GB of free internet data and 200 free on-network call minutes, valid for 24 hours.

This step is meant to reduce the digital gender gap and to help more women become active in the digital economy. “Our goal is to bring women forward and ensure they have equal opportunities in the digital world,” the minister added.

Free Wi-Fi for University Students

As part of efforts to help students and support online learning, free Wi-Fi hotspots will be set up in selected universities across the country. This service will be available for six months, giving students unlimited internet access so they can study, attend online classes, and access research material without any interruptions.

The minister also mentioned the success of the previous laptop distribution program by the PML-N government, in which 1.2 million laptops were given to students on merit. She said that these programs have played an important role in empowering young people and helping them succeed in education and work.

Rapid Growth in Digital Use Across Pakistan

According to new data shared during the event, Pakistan now has 150 million broadband users and 2 million fiber optic users. These numbers show that more and more people are using digital services for communication, learning, business, and daily life.

Shaza Fatima Khawaja said that this growing use of technology is a sign of progress, but more needs to be done. “Our future lies with our children and young girls,” she said. “That’s why it’s important to bring high-speed internet to every home in Pakistan.”

In her final remarks, the minister highlighted the importance of moving towards a cashless economy where people can make payments and do business online. She said that in today’s world, universal internet access is not a luxury—it’s a necessity.

The government’s new policies and digital projects aim to make internet and mobile access easier, cheaper, and more equal for everyone, especially for women and young people. With these steps, Pakistan hopes to build a future where all citizens can enjoy the benefits of the digital age.
