William Charles Merrick is an English actor known for his work on both screen and stage. He first gained recognition for his role as Alo Creevey in the third generation of the BAFTA-winning E4 television series Skins. The show, known for its raw and candid portrayal of teenage life, provided Merrick with a breakout role and introduced him to a wider audience.
Merrick hails from Ledbury in Herefordshire and received his education at The Downs School in Malvern and Dean Close School. Demonstrating early promise in drama, he placed in the top ten among over 50,000 students in the 2009 GCSE drama examination. His passion for performance was further cultivated through participation in school and community theatre, laying the foundation for his later accomplishments on stage.
As a member of Close up Theatre, Merrick performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2010 and 2011, taking on roles such as Posner in The History Boys and Charley in Death of a Salesman. In 2012–2013, he launched his own theatre company, No Prophet, at the age of 18. With this venture, he starred in productions like Punk Rock by Simon Stephens and Boys by Ella Hickson, showcasing his versatility and commitment to challenging theatrical works early in his career.
