She made her acting debut in the Tamil film Sigappu Rojakkal (1978) and has since appeared in over 350 films and around 40 television serials. Renowned for her versatility, Vadivukkarasi has portrayed a wide range of characters, including lead roles, strong supporting parts, and impactful antagonists, earning her a significant place in South Indian cinema.
Born into a family with cinematic roots, Vadivukkarasi is the niece of legendary Tamil film director A. P. Nagarajan. In fact, she was named after his film Vadivukku Valai Kappu. Despite her familial connection to the industry, her early life was marked by financial struggles. Before entering films, she worked as a primary school teacher and took up various jobs to support her family. Her resilience and passion for acting eventually led her to the silver screen, where she carved out a remarkable career.
Vadivukkarasi’s film journey began with Kanni Paruvathile, though Sigappu Rojakkal is often credited as her debut. Over the decades, she has consistently delivered memorable performances in films and television serials, becoming a familiar and respected face among South Indian audiences. Apart from her professional life, she is also a mother to her daughter, Shanmugappriya.
