Syed Noor is a well-known Pakistani director, producer, writer & actor. He was born on 21st February 1950 in Lahore, Pakistan. Syed Noor entered the Pakistani film industry in 1970 as an assistant to the renowned director S. Suleman. Noor worked under Suleman’s guidance for five years, assisting in 18 feature films. This period not only polished his technical understanding of filmmaking but also shaped his vision as a storyteller. Determined to become a director one day, he focused on mastering the craft of screenwriting, which soon became his gateway to success.

In 1976, Syed Noor wrote his first script for the film “Society Girl”, which turned out to be a massive success and was regarded as one of the best films of that year. The success of this film catapulted him to the forefront of the Pakistani film industry, making him one of the most sought-after screenwriters of his era. Between 1976 and 1992, he wrote about 250 scripts for Urdu and Punjabi films, collaborating with the leading directors of the time. His work earned him prestigious awards such as the National Award, Nigar Award, Graduate Award, Bolan Award, and Asian Award. Despite receiving acting offers, Noor remained dedicated to his ultimate dream—directing films.

Syed Noor made his directorial debut in 1993 with “Qasam”, which performed well at the box office. At the time, the Pakistani film industry was dominated by Punjabi films. Noor aimed to revive Urdu cinema, and his subsequent films “Jeeva” (1995) and “Sargam” (1995) were instrumental in achieving this goal. He introduced several new actors through these films, many of whom went on to become leading stars in Pakistani cinema. His success with Urdu films shifted the industry’s focus away from Punjabi films, especially after the death of Punjabi superstar Sultan Rahi.

Recognizing the need to sustain Punjabi cinema, Noor directed the blockbuster “Choorian” (1998), which remains one of the most successful Punjabi films in the history of Pakistani cinema. Its phenomenal success was followed by “Majajan” (2006), which surpassed even Choorian’s box office run and became a milestone in Punjabi filmmaking.

Passionate about nurturing the next generation of filmmakers, Syed Noor founded Paragon Studios and the Paragon Academy of Performing Arts, partnering with the Mass Communications Department of Punjab University to teach film as a subject. As the industry transitioned into the digital era and multiplex cinemas emerged, Noor’s vision and dedication to cinema continued to inspire new storytellers and preserve the legacy of Pakistani filmmaking.
