Suchitra Krishnamoorthi (born 27 November 1975) is an Indian actress, model, and singer who has made significant contributions to Hindi cinema, South Indian films, and television. Born into a Telugu family in Mumbai, her father, V. Krishnamoorthi, served as a commissioner of income tax, while her mother, Dr. Sulochana Krishnamoorthi, was a historian and professor. Suchitra was married to renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, with whom she has a daughter, Kaveri Kapur. Despite personal challenges, she continued to maintain an active presence in the entertainment industry, balancing her career across acting, music, and writing.
Suchitra began her career at a young age with the popular TV series Chunauti in 1987–1988. She also showcased her talent in theater, playing Lucy in Peanuts: The Musical, and gained popularity through television commercials for brands like Palmolive, Clearasil, Limca, and Colgate. Her breakthrough in films came with the 1994 romantic drama Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, opposite Shahrukh Khan, which was both a critical and commercial success. She also appeared in the Malayalam film Kilukkampetti alongside actor Jayaram. In addition to acting, Suchitra pursued a successful music career, releasing pop albums such as Dole Dole, Dum Tara, Aha, and Zindagi in the 1990s.
After a brief hiatus, she returned to films with My Wife’s Murder (2005), opposite Anil Kapoor, and continued to act in notable projects like Rann (2010), where she played a media executive. In recent years, she appeared in the Netflix film The Odd Couple (2022), playing the role of Nivedita opposite Divyendu Sharma. Known for her versatility, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi has built a diverse portfolio across various forms of media and continues to be an influential figure in Indian entertainment.
