Soubin Shahir (born 12 October 1983) is an acclaimed Indian actor, director, and producer primarily working in the Malayalam film industry. He began his career as an assistant director in 2003, working under veteran filmmakers like Fazil, Siddique, Amal Neerad, and Rajeev Ravi. His initial foray into acting was a minor role in Kaiyethum Doorath (2002), but it was Alphonse Putharen’s Premam (2015) that brought him widespread recognition. His portrayal of a quirky PT master became an instant hit, paving the way for a successful acting career. Soubin’s directorial debut came in 2017 with Parava, a coming-of-age drama that was well-received by critics and audiences alike.
In 2018, Soubin delivered a career-defining performance in Sudani from Nigeria, playing the lead role of a football team manager, which won him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor. The film was both a critical and commercial success, solidifying his position as a versatile actor capable of handling complex, emotional roles. Over the years, Soubin appeared in several memorable films, including Maheshinte Prathikaaram, Kali, Kammatipaadam, Mayanadhi, Comrade in America – CIA, and Kumbalangi Nights, each showcasing his knack for natural and relatable performances.
In 2024, Soubin starred in and co-produced the blockbuster film Manjummel Boys, portraying the character Siju David aka “Kuttan.” The movie broke several box-office records, becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time and the first to surpass ₹200 crore in collections. His production house, Parava Films, co-produced the film, further establishing Soubin as a key player in Malayalam cinema both in front of and behind the camera. With his blend of talent, humility, and business acumen, Soubin Shahir continues to be one of the most influential and beloved figures in the industry.
