Simon Curtis (born March 11, 1960) is an English director and producer known for his versatile work across theatre, television, and film. He began his career at the Royal Court Theatre as an assistant director on Caryl Churchill’s Top Girls and later worked alongside notable figures such as Danny Boyle and Max Stafford-Clark. His theatre credits include acclaimed productions like Road, A Lie of the Mind, Roots, and Dinner with Friends. In 2010, he directed Serenading Louie at the Donmar Warehouse.
Curtis transitioned to television in the 1990s, directing episodes of HBO’s Tracey Takes On… and later helming the BBC Four adaptation of Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky in 2005. He gained further recognition for directing Cranford (2007) and its follow-up Return to Cranford (2009), both based on the works of Elizabeth Gaskell. Curtis has established himself as a respected storyteller across mediums, known for his sensitive and detailed adaptations of literary works.
