Shakthi Vasudevan, born Prashanth Vasudevan, is an Indian actor who primarily works in Tamil cinema. As the son of acclaimed director P. Vasu, Shakthi began his journey in the film industry at a young age, appearing as a child artist in several of his father’s films, including Nadigan (1990), Chinna Thambi (1991), and Senthamizh Paattu (1992). He transitioned to lead roles with his debut in Thottal Poo Malarum (2007), which received average success. Though the film’s performance was modest, critics praised Shakthi’s confident screen presence and potential as a lead actor.

In the following years, Shakthi appeared in films such as Mahesh Saranya Matrum Palar (2008) and Ninaithale Inikkum (2009), the latter earning commercial and critical success. Despite these early achievements, his subsequent career was marked by a string of underwhelming projects. Films like Aattanayagann (2010) and Etho Seithai Ennai (2012) failed to make a mark, while several other ventures were shelved mid-production, including Neruppukozhi, Vanjikottai Valiban, and Kalla Sirippazhaga. Shakthi publicly acknowledged in 2013 that he had accepted roles out of loyalty to struggling filmmakers and vowed to be more selective with his projects.

After a period of low visibility, Shakthi attempted a comeback with the bilingual thriller Padam Pesum (Tamil) / Ala Ila Ela (Telugu), directed by Raghava and co-starring Poorna and Nisha Kothari. While the Telugu version eventually saw a delayed release in 2023, the Tamil version remained in limbo until its revival in 2024. Shakthi also made an impression in the Kannada film Shivalinga (2016), directed by his father, showing his willingness to explore regional cinema in a bid to re-establish his career.
