Samson Kayo is a British actor, writer, and producer known for his contributions to British television comedy. He gained recognition for his work on the BBC sketch show Famalam (2017–2020), which earned him a BAFTA nomination for Best Male Comedy Performance in 2018. He later created and starred in the Sky One sitcom Bloods (2021–2022), receiving another BAFTA nomination in 2022 and winning the Royal Television Society Award for Best Male Comedy Performance the same year. Kayo has also been recognized for his work on the sitcom Sliced (2019–2020), and has appeared in shows such as Youngers (2013), Timewasters (2017–2019), and Our Flag Means Death (2022–2023).
Born and raised in Peckham, Kayo is of Nigerian descent. As a child, he aspired to become a footballer, but his passion shifted toward comedy thanks to influences like Jim Carrey, Robin Williams, and British comedian Jocelyn Jee Esien, who inspired him as a Black entertainer. His journey into acting began unexpectedly when he stumbled upon an open audition for Youngers while out running an errand for his mother. He landed the role, marking the start of his career. A childhood friend of actor John Boyega, Kayo also portrayed a fictionalized version of will.i.am in the 2017 BBC Three comedy Murder in Successville.
Kayo’s career continued to gain momentum with his performance in Timewasters, where he played a key role in a jazz band transported through time. His ability to blend sharp humor with cultural relevance has made him a standout figure in modern British comedy. With a growing list of critically acclaimed roles and creative projects under his belt, Kayo remains a dynamic force in the entertainment industry, admired for both his comedic talent and authentic storytelling.
