Sai Kumar is s an Indian actor and dubbing artist. He was born on 27 July 1961 in Kottarakkara, Kerala, India. He began his career as a child dubbing artist at a young age.
A leading dubbing artist, his father P. Sarma was one of the best in the business. He has been dubbed for many of Suman and Rajasekhar’s films, following in his father’s footsteps.
As a result, he became a major player in dubbing, and I became the most paid and respected dubbing artist in the Telugu film industry. His first film as a child actor was Devudu Chesina Pelli (1975) featuring Sobhan Babu. He did the role of a blind boy in that movie. His best movie as a child artist was Sneham (1977).
He had to take a break from acting as he entered adolescence. He made my re-entry as an actor with Chiranjeevi’s Challenge (1984) movie. He acted as one of the villains with N. T. Rama Rao in Major Chandrakanth (1993).
The break came with Kalikalam’s (1991) movie. I also acted in the Kannada remake of the same film Kumkuma Bhagya (1993). Later, Sai Kumar says; Krishna Vamsi was slightly unhappy with my performance in Anthahpuram (1998). I learned a lot about subtle acting from Deva Katta while doing Prasthanam (2010).
He started in Tamil movies like Thaiyalkaran (1991), Kaaval Geetham (1992), Vaettiya Madichu Kattu (1998), and then the action roles such as Aathi (2006), Thenavattu (2008) and Thiruvannamalai (2008).
He rose to fame as a very successful star in the year 1996 from the Kannada film Police Story, which was also voice dubbed in Telugu and Tamil.
The film became the biggest blockbuster of the year and Sai as a lead hero acted in a series of hit Kannada films back to back. His Kannada films Agni IPS (1997), Central Jail (1997), and Police Story 2 (2007) were all major hits at the box office and Sai Kumar became a household name in Karnataka.
Sai Kumar in all his interviews says, ‘I am indebted to Karnataka for making me a star and giving me Police Story during my struggling days. His Kannada blockbuster hit film RangiTaranga, which created records is another milestone in Sai’s career.
It was one of the top 300 films eligible to be nominated for the Oscars in 2016 and his performance in the film was not only praised by the critics but also earned him an IIFA Utsavam and SIIMA Award.
He also hosted Deal or No Deal on Gemini TV and Etv Kannada in Telugu and Kannada, respectively. Additionally, he hosted the WOW-Sakkhath Kick Kodo game show on ETV Kannada and WOW S1 – Manchi Kick Ichche, and WOW S2 game shows on ETV. On ETV, he hosted a game show called Manam.
Kumar’s brothers P. Ravi Shankar and Ayyappa Sharma are also actors. They have two sisters. Kumar has a master’s degree in Arts from Presidency College, Chennai, and completed his M.Phil. at Madras Christian College, where he also taught briefly. He is married to Surekha. They have two children.
