Ravi Mohan, popularly known by his former stage name Jayam Ravi, is a prominent Indian actor who has made a significant mark in Tamil cinema. Born on 10 September 1980, Ravi is the son of veteran film editor A. Mohan. His breakthrough came with his debut film Jayam (2003), directed by his brother Mohan Raja, which became a commercial success. The film’s impact was so profound that “Jayam” became a prefix to his name until 2025. Over the years, he has garnered multiple accolades, including a Tamil Nadu State Film Award, a Filmfare Award South, and three SIIMA Awards, recognizing his contribution to the industry.
Following the success of Jayam, Ravi continued his fruitful collaboration with his brother Raja, starring in films like M. Ravi was born in Tirumangalam, Madurai, and comes from a multicultural background—his father being a Tamil Muslim Rowther and his mother a Telugu from Hyderabad. He grew up in both Chennai and Hyderabad, completing his schooling at Jawahar Vidyalaya in Chennai. Apart from his academic pursuits, Ravi trained in Bharatanatyam under Nalini Balakrishnan and performed his arangetram at the age of 12. A graduate in Visual Communication from Loyola College, Chennai, he further honed his acting skills at the Kishore Namit Kapur Institute in Mumbai.
