Ravi Krishna is an Indian actor known for his work in Tamil and Telugu cinema. He is the son of noted producer A. M. Rathnam and made a memorable acting debut with Selvaraghavan’s critically acclaimed 7G Rainbow Colony (2004). His intense portrayal of the protagonist won him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut – South and established him as a promising actor. Despite being launched under his father’s production, Ravi Krishna’s early success was more a result of his sincere performance than star lineage.
Born into a film-producing family, Ravi Krishna initially had no plans to pursue acting. After completing his schooling, he went to London for higher studies, earning a BA degree in Multimedia. He also pursued a diploma in Interactive Communication at Pentamedia and trained in non-linear film editing at Sam Media. His entry into films was unplanned — he was “roped in” to act when he visited India during Easter holidays. Prior to his debut, he underwent a month-long acting course at King’s College London to prepare for the role.
Following 7G Rainbow Colony, Ravi Krishna acted in several films including Sukran, Ponniyin Selvan, and Kedi, though none matched his debut’s success. His first Telugu venture, Brahmanandam Drama Company, also failed commercially. Despite his efforts, subsequent films like Netru Indru Naalai and Kadhalna Summa Illai struggled at the box office. However, his performance in Aaranya Kaandam (2011), regarded as Tamil cinema’s first neo-noir film, was well-received. After a long hiatus of nearly 14 years, Ravi Krishna is set to make his comeback with 7G Rainbow Colony 2, where he will reprise his iconic role, hoping to reconnect with audiences once again.
