Phyllis Logan (born 11 January 1956) is a Scottish actress best known for portraying Mrs. Hughes, the stalwart housekeeper, in Downton Abbey (2010–2015), a role she reprised in the feature films Downton Abbey (2019) and Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022). Earlier in her career, she was widely recognized for her role as Lady Jane Felsham in the long-running series Lovejoy (1986–1993).
Logan’s breakout film role came in Another Time, Another Place (1983), for which she won the BAFTA Award for Most Promising Newcomer and received a nomination for Best Actress. Her other notable film appearances include Secrets & Lies (1996), Shooting Fish (1997), and Misbehaviour (2020).
Born in Paisley, Scotland, she was the youngest of three children. Her father, David Logan, was a Rolls-Royce engineer and trade unionist. He passed away while she was still attending drama school.
