P. S. Mithran is a Tamil film director and screenwriter known for his distinctive storytelling and focus on socially relevant themes. Hailing from Mannargudi, Mithran made his directorial debut with the techno-thriller Irumbu Thirai (2018), which starred Vishal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Arjun Sarja. The film was lauded for its engaging screenplay, gripping narrative, and a strong social message on data privacy and cybercrime. It was both a critical and commercial success, running for over 100 days in theaters and firmly establishing Mithran as a promising filmmaker in the Tamil film industry.
Following the success of Irumbu Thirai, Mithran directed Hero (2019), a superhero-themed film starring Sivakarthikeyan and Kalyani Priyadarshan. The movie also featured Arjun and marked the Tamil debut of Bollywood actor Abhay Deol as the antagonist. While Hero received praise for its ambitious concept and visuals, it garnered mixed reviews overall, with critics highlighting both its strengths in message-driven content and its shortcomings in execution. Mithran, however, continued to show his commitment to telling stories that blend entertainment with societal commentary.
In 2022, Mithran returned with Sardar, a spy thriller featuring Karthi in a dual role. The film received positive reviews and was appreciated for its tight screenplay, layered characters, and engaging plotline. Off-screen, Mithran married film journalist Ashameera Aiyappan in 2022. Known for collaborating with technicians like Yuvan Shankar Raja, editor Ruben, and cinematographer George C. Williams, Mithran has developed a signature style in Tamil cinema that combines sleek visuals with thoughtful narratives.
