Mandira Bedi (born 15 April 1972) is an Indian actress, fashion designer, and television presenter who rose to fame with her iconic role in the 1994 television series Shanti, aired on Doordarshan. She went on to appear in popular Hindi TV shows like Aurat, Dushman, and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Bedi transitioned into sports anchoring, notably hosting the ICC Cricket World Cups (2003, 2007), Champions Trophies (2004, 2006), and Indian Premier League for Sony Max. She also ventured into films, playing a negative role in the 2019 action thriller Saaho. A passionate animal rights advocate, Bedi has actively promoted faux leather for PETA.
Born in Calcutta to Verinder Singh and Gita Bedi, Mandira hails from a prominent family with connections to Marshal of the Indian Air Force, Arjan Singh. She completed her schooling at Cathedral and John Connon School, Bombay, followed by graduation from St. Xavier’s College and post-graduation from Sophia Polytechnic, Bombay. In addition to her acting career, Bedi pursued fashion designing, making her debut at Lakme Fashion Week in 2014 with a saree collection and subsequently opening her signature sari store in 2013, solidifying her status as a versatile entrepreneur.
On the personal front, Mandira married filmmaker Raj Kaushal on 14 February 1999. The couple welcomed their son, Vir, in 2011, and in 2020, they adopted a four-year-old girl named Tara. Tragically, Mandira faced a personal loss when her husband Raj Kaushal passed away due to cardiac arrest on 30 June 2021. Despite personal challenges, she continues to be a prominent figure in entertainment, fashion, and social causes.
