Mahiro Takasugi (高杉 真宙), born on July 4, 1996, is a Japanese actor affiliated with the agency Posters. He was discovered unexpectedly at a fireworks display in Kumamoto Prefecture, which led to his acting debut in the stage play Every Little Thing ’09 in 2009. The following year, he made his film debut in Hanjiro, marking the beginning of a promising acting career.
Takasugi gained early recognition for his talent, landing his first starring film role in Quartet (2012). His performance in the 2015 film Bon Lin earned him the Best Newcomer Award at the 36th Yokohama Film Festival. With his natural screen presence and emotional range, he quickly emerged as one of Japan’s most promising young actors.
In 2017, Takasugi further solidified his status by winning the Sponichi Grand Prix New Face Award at the 72nd Mainichi Film Awards for his role in Before We Vanish.
