Madhumitha, born Swapna Madhuri, is an Indian actress known for her work in Telugu and Tamil films. She began her acting career with the Telugu film Sandade Sandadi (2002) in a pivotal supporting role, followed by notable appearances in films like Manmadhudu (2002) and Puttintiki Ra Chelli (2004), the latter being a commercial blockbuster. Her transition to Tamil cinema came with Kudaikul Mazhai (2004), directed by R. Parthiban, where she adopted the screen name Madhumitha. Though the film had moderate success, her performance opened doors to leading roles in Tamil films like Amudhae (2005) and Englishkaran (2005), earning critical appreciation for her acting skills.

Madhumitha’s diverse roles included the 2007 independent film Aanivaer, which brought her international recognition among Tamil diaspora audiences. She delivered a critically acclaimed performance in Yogi (2009), portraying a slum-dwelling mother, which earned her a Vijay Awards nomination for Best Supporting Actress. After her marriage, Madhumitha shifted towards supporting roles in films like Biriyani (2013) and Telugu projects such as Uu Kodathara? Ulikki Padathara? and Bhale Bhale Magadivoy. Though her post-marriage career focused on character roles, her early work remains celebrated for its emotional depth and versatility.
