Keigo Higashino is a renowned Japanese author best known for his mystery novels. He served as the 13th President of the Mystery Writers of Japan from 2009 to 2013. His works have earned numerous prestigious awards, with nearly twenty adapted into films and television series.
Born in Osaka’s Ikuno-ku ward, Higashino’s family name was originally read as “Tono” before his father changed it to “Higashino.” Raised in a working-class neighborhood, his early life was marked by financial hardships. Despite these challenges, his interest in mystery fiction blossomed during his high school years at Hannan High School, following his time at Koji Elementary and Higashi Ikuno Junior High School.
Higashino pursued Electrical Engineering at Osaka Prefecture University, where he also captained the university’s archery club. He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree before eventually establishing himself as one of Japan’s most celebrated mystery writers.
