Kazuaki Seki is a Japanese director and visual artist born on May 9, 1976, in Obuse, Nagano Prefecture. He began his career in the late 1990s after leaving a science university to pursue filmmaking, eventually joining the production company Triple-O in 1998. In 2017, he established his own creative agency, Koe. Seki is renowned for his innovative visual storytelling, particularly in music videos and commercials, where he blends dynamic choreography with inventive camera work. His collaboration with the American band OK Go on the 2014 music video “I Won’t Let You Down” garnered international acclaim for its seamless long takes and synchronized performances.
Seki’s filmography includes the 2021 action-comedy film “Hell’s Garden” (Jigoku no Hanazono), which showcases his flair for stylized visuals and humor. In television, he directed episodes of the 2024 series “Kenshiro ni Yoroshiku,” further demonstrating his versatility across different media formats. Beyond directing, Seki has significantly influenced the visual identity of the Japanese pop group Perfume, directing numerous music videos and designing album covers since 2004. His collaborations with artists like Gen Hoshino, Sakanaction, and YOASOBI have solidified his reputation as a leading figure in Japan’s visual arts scene.
