Junior MGR, born as Ramachandran, is an Indian actor known for his work in the Tamil film industry. He is the adopted grandson of the iconic actor and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. G. Ramachandran (MGR). Starting his career as a child artist in television serials, Junior MGR transitioned to films, eventually making his lead role debut in the movie Irumban (2023), where he starred alongside Aishwarya Dutta. His early attempts to break into cinema included projects like Kabali Thottam and Odu Kumar Odu, but both films were shelved before release.
Born to Sudha, the adopted daughter of MGR, and Vijayakumar, Ramachandran pursued an academic path before entering cinema. He completed an engineering degree and later earned a master’s degree in Australia. Returning to India, he pursued his passion for acting, initially working in supporting roles. He collaborated with director Keera on films such as Ettuthikkum Para (2020) and Irumban (2023). Over the years, he took up several supporting roles, often sharing screen space with senior actor Samuthirakani in films like Sangathalaivan, MGR Magan, and Vellai Yaanai.
In the early 2020s, Ramachandran adopted the stage name Jr MGR and began working on multiple film projects. He starred as the lead in Gangster 21, directed by Rathan Linga, opposite Raai Laxmi, though the film remains unreleased. He also took on key roles in upcoming films such as 1848, Vinaval, and Musasi, while also playing antagonistic and supporting characters in projects like Thanga Puthayal, Trainers, and Pendulum. Despite several delays and unreleased projects, Junior MGR continues to pursue his career in Tamil cinema, aiming to establish himself as a leading actor while carrying forward the legacy of his legendary grandfather.
