Joseph Balderrama is a Mexican-British actor known for his versatile performances across stage, screen, and voice work. He gained recognition in the film Stan & Ollie (2018) and currently stars in the popular Netflix series Heartstopper (2022–present) and the BritBox period drama Hotel Portofino (2023). Balderrama has also made a mark in the world of video games, voicing key roles in It Takes Two (2021) and Diablo IV (2024), showcasing his broad talent and adaptability.

Born in Mexico City to a Mexican father and American mother, Balderrama moved to England at the age of ten. He attended Alleyn’s School in Dulwich and studied abroad at Phillips Academy Andover. His passion for acting was evident early on, leading him to join the National Youth Theatre. He pursued a Scottish Master of Arts in History from the University of Glasgow and then trained at LAMDA on a scholarship, graduating with a diploma in acting in 2002.

Balderrama made his professional stage debut as Benvolio in the English Touring Theatre’s Romeo and Juliet (2003), and quickly became known for his dynamic stage presence. He took on roles in classic and contemporary plays, including The Merchant of Venice, Hamlet, and The Miser. On screen, he appeared in The Flying Scotsman (2006) and made his television debut on The Vice. With a career spanning genres and mediums, Balderrama continues to impress audiences with his range and dedication to storytelling.
