Jay Roach (born June 14, 1957) is an American filmmaker acclaimed for his work in both comedy and political drama. He rose to fame directing the Austin Powers film series and successful comedies such as Meet the Parents (2000), Dinner for Schmucks (2010), and The Campaign (2012). Roach later shifted toward more serious fare with critically acclaimed dramas including Trumbo (2015) and Bombshell (2019), showcasing his versatility across genres.
Roach also made a significant mark in television, directing and producing political dramas such as Recount (2008), Game Change (2012), and All the Way (2016), which earned him four Primetime Emmy Awards. He operates under his production company, Everyman Pictures. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Roach studied economics at Stanford University before earning an MFA in film production from USC. His work often blends sharp humor with pointed political and social commentary.
