Guddu Dhanoa is an talented Indian writer, producer and director. He was born in Mumbai, India. Guddu Dhanoa is known for his contributions to Hindi and Punjabi cinema, particularly in the action and thriller genres. He began his journey in Bollywood by producing Deewana (1992), which starred Shahrukh Khan in one of his early roles. Dhanoa gained significant acclaim as a director with the 1997 film Ziddi, starring Sunny Deol. The film was a commercial hit, grossing ₹20 crore against a budget of ₹8 crore, and became a milestone in the careers of both Dhanoa and Deol.
His directorial ventures include a mix of action and thriller films such as Elaan (1994), Tu Chor Main Sipahi (1996), Aflatoon (1997), Bichhoo (2000), 23rd March 1931: Shaheed (2002), Hawa (2003), Jaal: The Trap (2003), and Big Brother. Bichhoo, a revenge drama starring Bobby Deol and Rani Mukherjee, was an unofficial remake of the French film Léon: The Professional and performed well at the box office, though its sequel never materialized.
In 2002, Dhanoa directed 23rd March 1931: Shaheed, which depicted the life of Indian revolutionary Bhagat Singh. Unfortunately, the film, which clashed with The Legend of Bhagat Singh at the box office, failed commercially. His supernatural thriller Hawa (2003), inspired by the Hollywood film The Entity, received negative reviews. During the filming of Jaal: The Trap, veteran actor Amrish Puri sustained a serious injury.
Venturing into Punjabi cinema, Dhanoa directed The Lion of Punjab (2011) and Ramta Jogi (2015). Most recently, he has been signed to direct the Hindi remake of Tamil blockbuster S3 (also known as Singam 3), with Thakur Anoop Singh confirmed in the lead role.
