Girija Oak made her big-screen debut at the young age of 15, acting in several notable Marathi films including Goshta Choti Dongraevadhi, Gulmohar, Manini, and Adgule Madgule. Girija Oak made her Marathi television debut as a lead actress in Zee Marathi’s acclaimed drama Lajja, where she portrayed Manaswini Desai (Manu), a young woman at the center of a public scandal. She starred alongside Piyush Ranade, Tejaswini Pandit, and Mukta Barve. In addition to films and television, Oak has also played leading roles in several Marathi theatre productions, further showcasing her versatility as a performer.
In 2018, Girija Oak ventured into short films with Quarter, directed by Navjyot Bandiwadekar. The film premiered at the prestigious 71st Cannes Film Festival in the Court Métrage (Short Film Corner) and was featured in numerous international film festivals.
Oak’s performance in Quarter earned her the Best Actress award at the European Cinematography Awards 2018 and a nomination for Best International Actress at the Maverick Movie Awards the same year. Notably, Quarter became the first Indian short film to launch its poster and trailer at a public event attended by members of the Indian press and film industry. The film was digitally released on 10 April 2020.
