Freddie James Prinze Jr. is an American actor and voice artist who became a prominent teen heartthrob in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He is best known for his roles in iconic teen and horror films such as I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998), and the romantic comedy She’s All That (1999), which cemented his status as a leading man of the teen movie era. He continued his film success with roles in Down to You and Boys and Girls (both 2000), Summer Catch (2001), and as Fred in the live-action Scooby-Doo films (2002, 2004).

In television, Prinze expanded his range with appearances on Boston Legal and 24, and he co-created, starred in, and executive produced the ABC sitcom Freddie (2005–2006). He also became known to a younger audience as the voice of Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus in the Star Wars Rebels animated series (2014–2018).

Born on March 8, 1976, in Los Angeles, Prinze is the only child of the late comedian Freddie Prinze and Katherine Elaine Prinze. His father died by suicide when Freddie Jr. was just ten months old, after which he was raised by his mother in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Despite originally planning to pursue civil engineering, Prinze was inspired to pursue acting after seeing Neil Patrick Harris encourage students at his high school.

Of Puerto Rican descent on his father’s side, Prinze is fluent in Spanish and was raised Catholic. He participated in the Albuquerque Children’s Theatre and school productions before moving to Los Angeles post-high school to pursue acting full-time.

In addition to his acting work, Freddie Prinze Jr. is known for his longtime marriage to actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, with whom he shares a love of family and cooking—he has even published a cookbook. His career reflects a diverse and sustained presence in Hollywood across genres and formats.
