Faruk Kabir is an popular Indian film director, writer and producer. He was born born on 18th March 1983 in Delhi, India. Faruk Kabir began his cinematic journey at the young age of 18, working as an assistant director to renowned filmmakers like Aziz Mirza and Santosh Sivan. During this formative period, he was involved in the making of films such as Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and Asoka, which gave him early exposure to mainstream Bollywood production. He also assisted in Rajiv Rai’s film Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat, further deepening his understanding of direction and production.

Seeking to refine his craft, Faruk Kabir enrolled at the New York Film Academy (NYFA), where he studied screenwriting and filmmaking. Armed with international training and domestic experience, he transitioned into independent projects. His critically acclaimed documentary Unheard Voices of the People of India marked a significant turning point in his career. Produced by Saeed Mirza, the documentary took Kabir across 27,000 kilometres of India by road, capturing the real stories and silent struggles of marginalized communities. The project was widely appreciated for its authentic and compelling narrative.

In 2006, Faruk Kabir made his short film directorial debut with The Awakening, a thought-provoking film starring Ajay Devgan, focusing on the pressing issue of water disasters. The film received positive responses for its socially relevant theme and impactful execution.

Faruk Kabir made his feature film debut as both director and actor with Allah Ke Banday (2010), a hard-hitting film on juvenile crime featuring an ensemble cast including Naseeruddin Shah, Sharman Joshi, and Atul Kulkarni. The film was not only a commercial success but also earned critical acclaim. It was screened at the Chicago Film Festival and received 13 award nominations in 2011, including Best Debut Director at the Filmfare, Star Screen, Stardust, Balaji, and IIFA Awards, firmly establishing Kabir as a promising filmmaker in Indian cinema.

Kabir is currently directing Shockers, India’s first horror web series, which he has conceptualized and brought to life through his production house, Spiders Web.
