Born in Victoria, British Columbia, to an ethnic Japanese mother and a father of British heritage, Emily grew up on a farm by the sea in East Sooke. She pursued her love for the craft by completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting and Theatre from the University of Victoria, before moving to Toronto to further her career.
