D’Pharaoh Miskwaatez Loescher McKay Woon-A-Tai (born September 19, 2001) is a Canadian actor of Oji-Cree descent, best known for his breakout role as Bear Smallhill in the critically acclaimed FX on Hulu series Reservation Dogs (2021–2023). His performance in the comedy-drama earned him widespread recognition, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Born in Toronto alongside his fraternal twin Mi’De Xxavier, Woon-A-Tai carries a culturally rich heritage—Oji-Cree, Guyanese, and German—all reflected in his full name. He is a black belt in Shotokan karate and the grandson of renowned karate instructor Frank Woon-A-Tai. On his paternal side, he is the grandson of Dr. Alex McKay, an Anishinaabemowin language professor in the University of Toronto’s Indigenous Studies department.
Woon-A-Tai has maintained strong ties to his Indigenous roots, including visiting family in the Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation. He continues to be a rising talent in both Canadian and international film and television, representing Indigenous voices and stories with depth and authenticity.
