Did Hamza Ali Abbasi Really Quit Showbiz?

Hamza Ali Abbasi is one of the most admired and talented actors in the Pakistani entertainment industry. He said that he wanted to explore and understand his faith more deeply and focus on his relationship with Allah. Recently, Hamza clarified his old statement in a new interview. He explained that his words were misunderstood. “I never said I was quitting showbiz forever,” Hamza said. “In my video, I clearly mentioned that I had reached certain conclusions about faith and the afterlife, and I needed time to explore them. I took a break from acting for that reason, not because I believed art was un-Islamic.”

He further said that the media quickly picked up his statement and headlines were made without watching the full video. “I followed Islamic scholar Javed Ahmed Ghamidi, and I even mentioned his name in that video,” Hamza said. “According to the understanding of Islam that I follow, performing arts are not forbidden as long as they follow moral boundaries. So, saying I quit showbiz for Islam is incorrect.”

Hamza also shared that he travelled to Dallas, Texas, to study under Javed Ahmed Ghamidi and learn more about religion. He was surprised that only the first few minutes of his 17-minute video were watched, and false assumptions were made. “The next day, all the news headlines said I left showbiz. I held my head in shock thinking, did no one watch the full video?” he said with a smile.
