David Castañeda, born on October 24, 1989, is an American actor best known for his role as Diego Hargreeves (also known as Number Two or “The Kraken”) in the popular Netflix superhero series The Umbrella Academy, which premiered in 2019.
Though born in Los Angeles, Castañeda was raised in Sinaloa, Mexico, before returning to the U.S. at age 14. He attended William Workman High School in California. Initially pursuing civil engineering with plans to join his family’s business, Castañeda later shifted his focus to the arts. He studied film production and international business at California State University, Fullerton, where his interest in acting began to take shape.
While still in school, he started auditioning and gradually built his career in film and television. Despite the challenges of balancing school and acting, he graduated in 2015. Since his breakout role in The Umbrella Academy, Castañeda has become a rising star recognized for his intense screen presence and emotional depth.
