Becky Ann Baker is an American actress recognized for her compelling character roles in both television and film. She is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Jean Weir, the empathetic and often bewildered mother on the cult favorite series Freaks and Geeks (1999–2000), and as Loreen Horvath, the sharp and emotionally complex mother of Hannah on HBO’s Girls (2012–2017), a role that earned her multiple Critics’ Choice nominations and a Primetime Emmy nomination.
Born Becky Ann Gelke in Fort Knox, Kentucky, she is the daughter of a military officer and was raised in Virginia, where she graduated from West Springfield High School. She went on to attend Western Kentucky University.
