Baburaj Jacob, mononymously known as Baburaj, is an Indian actor, director, and screenwriter who predominantly works in Malayalam cinema, with appearances in Tamil and Hindi films. He began his career playing antagonistic roles, notably debuting in Bheesmacharya (1994), and later acted as a villain in the Hindi film Hulchul (2004). Over time, Baburaj transitioned into comedic and character roles, gaining widespread popularity after his performance in Salt N’ Pepper (2011). He also ventured into direction with films like Black Dalia (2009) and Manushyamrugam, the latter produced by his wife, actress Vani Viswanath, with whom he has two children (he also has two sons from a previous marriage). Known for his versatility, Baburaj played significant roles in films like Ordinary, Mayamohini, Naughty Professor, DYSP Sankunni Uncle, Honey Bee 2: Celebrations, and Thrissivaperoor Kliptham. His talent for intense character portrayals was highlighted in Koodasha, where he played a vengeful father, and his performance as Panakkal Jomon in Joji (2021) received critical acclaim. In 2017, Baburaj was involved in a stabbing incident in Idukki following a dispute with a neighbor, but he has continued to remain an active and respected figure in the film industry.
